CRISIS LINES + RESPONSE CENTERS

A crisis response center is a place for people to go when they feel like they are a threat to themselves or others. In PA it’s often referred to as 302’ed. The Process is: Admitted to one of the facilities in the city and evaluated by a team of psychologist, Social workers and therapists. Held for 72 hours, no outside contact. Re-evaluated in a mental health hearing to assess the need for further time in the facility or connect with outpatient treatment (therapy, Intensive outpatient treatment, drug and alcohol treatment etc.)

CARIE - CENTER FOR ADVOCACY FOR THE RIGHTS & INTERESTS OF THE ELDERLY
Operates a free telephone and online, one-on-one service that assists older adults and their caregivers identify and access needed services and supports. Advocates offer options counseling, information, advocacy and education to help elders and caregivers identify and access resources on any issue an elder may be facing, including health insurance coverage, housing, health resources, nutritional support, long term care services, housing, transportation, abuse and neglect, financial exploitation and many more. Provides special assistance to victims of crime and elder abuse through its Providing Advocacy for Victimized Elders (PAVE) program. Victim Advocates accompany elder crime victims through the criminal justice process and help them apply for victim compensation. In addition, the CARIE LINE also coordinates an Elderly Victims Emergency Security Fund (EVESF) which re-secures homes and prevents further victimization of low-income older Philadelphians by replacing or repairing door and window locks, replacing doors and windows or installing security bars on windows.

MEDICAID
State health insurance for everyone with low income. For 2019 individuals who make 1,395/mo or less qualify. You cannot have assets more than 1000 minus one car and one house. If you had a recent life event (job loss, injury etc) wait 30 days from last paycheck to apply. This will show decrease in income, they only want 30 days worth of proof and able to prove the income is below 1395. No premiums, no visit or med copays (except name brand meds are sometimes $1). Application for both Medicaid and MAWD are at the website below. Check your household size and income requirements here. You can apply for these if you live with roommates/partners as long as you have separate finances.

Medical assistance for workers with disabilities; you can make more money for this one (2,527.50/ month) you have a premium with this one, usually around $50/mo but you must have an established chronic health condition that is well documented. Total cost is $334.00, if the split is amicable and both parties are able to sign paperwork. Also an affidavit for IFP or In Forma Pauperis is available to waive fees related to the divorce making the total cost about $23 for filing fees. PCAR - PENNSYLVANIA COALITION AGAINST RAPE
Founded in 1975, PCAR works to end sexual violence and advocates for the rights and needs of all sexual assault victims. PCAR partners with a network of rape crisis programs to bring help, hope, and healing around issues of sexual violence to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. PCAR launched the Sexual Violence Legal Assistance Project in 2018 to provide holistic legal services to survivors of sexual violence. They operate the National Sexual Violence Resource Center (NSVRC), which identifies, develops and disseminates resources regarding all aspects of sexual violence prevention and intervention. Most helpful resource is the library located here, searchable by topic/date/etc.

The GPHA Woodland Ave location is pretty organized and recently remodeled. Staff is friendly and receptive, less extensive wait time. The GPHA AL-Assist location specializes in drug and alcohol treatment and co-occurring disorders, but welcome those patients for talk therapy as well. Most treatments provided by LCSWs but have an attending psych NP on site to connect with once care has been established. Pharmacy next door. This outpatient counseling center has locations in Fairmount and Society Hill. The center offers individual therapy on a sliding scale and shares self-help tips on its website. TCP’s main office is in Center City and a satellite office at Inner Rhythms Music and Therapy Center in West Philadelphia. Fee is determined on a sliding scale based on income and number of dependents. The fee is determined at intake and then reassessed every year. Sliding scale: $35 to $120 individual and couples, $20 to $70 group therapy, Established rate plus $25 for intake.
